Responding to the murk, mud and isolation of life in the southern antipodes (where everything is upside down), Ave Teth explores the elemental connection between psyche and landscape. A stark diametric of opposites, the sound of Ave Teth is cold to the touch yet leaves a scar; both mechanical and animal.

Possessing a sound both alluringly obscure and harshly wrought, Ave Teth draws on forms of noise, industrial, goth and metal musics while flirting with the ritual elements of meditative drones and hypnotic chimes, looping ad infinitum. Based in Aotearoa/New Zealand, the group’s hive-mind sees the individual subsumed into the whole; samples, synth lines and shrieks abound; the lunar-sea of moon-honour holds forth.

Mesmerising through dark melody and delicate attention to detail, Ave Teth’s first release is MMXVIII, a record of four tracks that swells with an earthen pulse, every so often overwhelming with an irrational logic. Textures at once shockingly abrasive and enduringly trance-like make the group’s potently minimal arrangements immersive and unrelenting. It “chills to the marrow”, said Sixnoises.com: “Grave in tone and coarse in texture... with gravelled vocals and abrasive industrial instrumentation.”
